Project overview
Mikrofill was selected to support a complete plant room refurbishment at Club 3000 Bingo in Bristol, replacing ageing and inefficient heating equipment with a modern, energy-efficient commercial boiler system. The project was designed to improve reliability, reduce operating costs, enhance system performance, and provide long-term sustainability benefits for the busy leisure venue.
Modern Heating Infrastructure for a Busy Leisure Venue
As one of the UK’s largest independent bingo operators, Club 3000 welcomes thousands of visitors across its nationwide network of venues. To improve energy efficiency, reliability and system performance at its Bristol branch, the existing heating plant was replaced as part of a major plantroom refurbishment.
The project delivered a modern, fully integrated heating solution designed to support the building’s heating requirements while reducing energy consumption and improving operational control.
Working to a tight installation schedule, mechanical contractor William Austin Engineering designed and installed a complete plantroom upgrade centred around high-efficiency condensing boiler technology.
The existing plant was removed and replaced with four frame-mounted Ethos 130kW condensing boilers, providing a highly responsive heating solution with a combined modulation ratio of 40:1.
The new system delivers low-pressure hot water to both air handling units and radiator circuits throughout the building, ensuring efficient heat distribution across multiple areas of the venue.
To improve system protection and operational performance, the installation also incorporated:
- Mikrovent 750 low-loss header
- Air and dirt separation technology
- Sediment filtration down to 5 microns
- Weather compensation controls
- Full remote BMS compatibility
Together, these elements help maintain system efficiency, protect key components and optimise performance in response to changing operating conditions.
Pressurisation and System Protection
As part of the wider refurbishment, the heating system was converted to an unvented low-temperature hot water (LTHW) system using a pre-commissioned Mikrofill pressurisation package.
The package included:
- Mikrofill 3 wall-mounted filling device
- 600-litre expansion vessel
- Service drain valve
The solution provides accurate pressure control throughout the system while helping to protect plant and maintain long-term operational reliability.
Project solution
The completed project delivered a modern, energy-efficient heating system designed to support the demands of a busy commercial leisure venue.
Key benefits included:
- Improved seasonal efficiency through condensing boiler technology
- Reduced NOx emissions
- Enhanced heating reliability
- Improved system water quality and protection
- Advanced control through BMS integration
- Weather-compensated operation for improved energy performance
- Stable system pressure management
By combining high-efficiency boilers, intelligent controls and a professionally commissioned pressurisation solution, the project has helped future-proof the venue’s heating infrastructure while supporting lower operating costs and improved system performance.
