Officially opened by Sir Ian Botham in June 1998 the Georgina Ward within Russells Hall Hospital in Dudley is a modern, fully equipped clinical area where testing procedures and treatments such as blood and platelet transfusions are carried out. There are 14 oncology clinics that run each week and are attended by a consultant oncologist and specialist registrar. In addition the Georgina Ward has its own phlebotomist and dedicated blood counter so that patients can be seen promptly with their current blood count.

Andy Humphries, Mechanical Design Engineer at Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council cycled from West Park in Wolverhampton to Aberdovey on the west coast of Wales to raise money for the Georgina Ward. One of a team of riders, Andy carried out the arduous 125 mile ride on a very hot day in June and is very pleased to announce they are well on the way to hitting their £2,500 target.
As well as day to day requirements for chairs, kettles and fridges the fundraising has also purchased holiday homes in Evesham, Welshpool and Somerset to allow patients to have holidays when their treatment allows.
